Finally took some pixs of some new additions. Three are from Barry and the forth I picked up at a LFS. Sorry for the bad photos, I need a tripod and a better digital.
AlienDomain

Here are the two Derasas and a small Maxima I ordered from Barry.

This one I got from a LFS that gets some great livestock.

Here is the tank from the side.

Thanks Mike,
How are your new guys doing? Did you have to move the Derasa?

Casey,
Thanks. I have to say the tank is doing better than I had hoped for at nine months. I have to setup the Ca Reactor I got and see how that does, I think I could have better coralline growth. My favorite thing next to clams are gadgets.

Well, I'm a bit flabbergasted at what I found out today...
I thought it a bit odd that I had never seen a squamosa clam with coloration like mine, and while browsing clamsdirect earlier this evening, I found a clam that looks exactly like mine... a T. deresa...
Well, I guess I can claim ignorance, being that I in fact ordered a T. squamosa from liveaquaria... and that is what I should have gotten.
Of course, I discover this long after the 10-day guarantee is up...
I think they need to teach their packers at liveaquaria the differences between species... they shipped me a hammer coral instead of the green frogspawn I had ordered (which they made good on, but sent me a 'yellow' frogspawn instead of green), and now I discover they sent me a T. deresa...
Well, at least their customer service is top notch...
So I guess I stand corrected on my first pic (the one that started this thread)... it is a nice clam though it isn't what I thought it was.

Reefer,
The clam you posted a photo of is a T. Squamosa, Derasas have a smooth shell. A Squamosa also could have many different color variations that could be mistaken for other species. I have seen a number of books that have incorrect IDs of Clams in photos.
Now I would not be surprised that LiveAquaria sent you the wrong clam, although I think they got it right in this case. I have received incorrect products from DrsFosterSmith more than once.

Well, attached is the picture from clamsdirect that looks just like my clam, though as you guys have stated it has a smooth shell compared to mine's 'toothed' shell.
So are the only real differences between deresa and squamosa clams their shell?
Auggghhh!... stop the insanity!

Reefer,
It is true that the two species can look similar or very different if you look at the spotted variation of the T. Squamosa. Some Maximas look similar to Croceas, hence the shell is best way to tell what species you are looking at. All other defining characteristics are internal to the calm. Needless to say you have a Squamosa and as it gets larger the color pattern will look less like a Derasa.
Hope this helps,
AlienDomain

Casey you make me sick all those BEATIFUL clams. Everytime I get a REALLY nice one, have to wait till my wife goes to work so I can sneak it in my personal clam tank She reminds me when we get the electric bill, that we sell clams and can't keep them all Those look really healthy.

Can I save that picture you uploaed?
