Sorry to say, but I'm clamless. (So far)
So how much did you all pay for your clams? (ballpark figures okay.) The only ones I see here in NYC are about $100 for a 2-3" clam. Is that a good price?

my clam
First clam, bought from an lfs in Mississippi (wholesale from Calif.)
I've since moved him to a rock to which he quickly attached. Hope he's happy there.

So what's the physics involved in a clam looking different when viewed from the top, rather than through the glass?

$100 for a 3" clam... Depends. If it was a teardrop Maxima, maybe. Still, a bit pricy, from where I stand. My 3" ultra-max was $50. I paid $75 (on sale) for an 8" derasa. Generally, Maximas and Croceas are more expensive, especially for rare colors. If you're ordering online, expect to pay a pretty penny in shipping, but for comparison, check out www.clamsdirect.com to get an idea.
