Pinched Mantle? Help!

arrgghhh, I got home and my little green squamosa looks horrible, last night it was fine. My Maxxima and Crocea are both fine. I am preparing a freshwater dip but I am concerned that I may be moving too fast. Does this pic look like pinched mantle? it is only on this end of the clam, the otherside looks fine.

SG 1.024
Alk 9dkh
PH 8.26
temp 76.8
Nitrites 0
Ammonia 0
nitrates 15

Using two 250 watt phoenix 14k that are 2 months old and 1 150 watt 20k for lighting. The squamosa has been sitting on the sandbed, I have not seen anythingn nip at it. I have done some pretty major water changes in the last two weeks to attack my high nitrates, but it has been almost a week since the last one.

I'd give it another day before jumping into a FW dip as long as it doesnt get much worse. If it's only the one side, I'd hesitate to say pinched mantle, but I'm surely not an expert on it.

How big is this little fellow? Do you supplement with phyto food?

It is about two inches, I have been supplementing with DT's but I had read from quite a few sources that it is not really necessary and all it really does is add phosphates and crap to my tank so I stopped about a month ago. I have trates so I am assuming that it has had food to eat. I guess I could try target feeding it with phyto but really wanted to stay away from it. But if I am wrong I have no problem doing this. Obviously I do not want to lose the little guy.

well it sure wouldnt hurt any clam under 3 in since there mantle is so small
they cant get much from the lights,if you decide to do it just put him in a bowl of tank water and bowl feed him, that how I do it and that doesnt polute the tank then

I had a derasa clam that had pinched mantle and it didn't look quite like that. Mine had just one small area where it looked like the mantle was being pulled back or catching on something. I did a freshwater dip and it was gone the next day. Have you checked for pyramid snails underneath?

Not knocking this forum but I used the Clams Direct forums for most of my clam info. They are being hosted on a different site now.

I did look for snails but I did not see anything. I am not sure why I did not think of just taking it out. I am letting it sit in a dish with tank water. I am hoping that helps.

Jadinop, That's why I was asking, I have am not sure if it is pinched mantle or not.
