Trying to save $$$ on presents for the wife? I thought it was oysters that produced pearls.

If I were to try that, my wife would call me a cheap-skate for not going out and buying one from a store.

The pearls we see in jewelry is mostly from freshwater oysters. Any mollusk can create "pearls" -- which are just a piece of debris wrapped in many layers of nacre -- but they won't necessarily look like anything that you buy.

ya that sounds about right .. but it still would be nice to get something valuable out of a tank and have the proof to show it... what would be a good clam or mollusk that would live cohabitatilly with a couple clowns and maybe a grouper and some soft coralsand require little lighting i think i have a power glow but no metal highllide

You're asking for a miracle clam! Unfortunately, I don't think it exists.
