PC lighting good enough for 18" deep 75g?

Can anyone comment on how suitable the coralife 48" 4x65w light would be for less-demanding clams in a regular 75? The tank is an offbrand and measures about 48x18x18. It will be barebottom, possibly starboard if I can find some cheap enough.

Will this work or do I need to quit messing around and go with the halides? The fixture is currently running two 10k's and two actinics. I don't mind swapping the bulbs for something with a higher PAR value if anyone can recommend something.

Also, what if I supplemented the fixture with a single VHO strip? Would that do it? Epidemic reported in the t5 thread that clams just don't do well under PC. I'm on both a heat and cost budget here, so I would appreciate any suggestions with that in mind.

Thanks,
Dan

You should be ok with the low light ones like a Deresa,I wouldnt suggest Maxis or Croceas though.I would recommend you feed them also, especially if under 3 ".

Thanks Casey!

A local reefer has offered to work a trade on the fixture for a used homemade MH setup he has. Finding out the particulars on his setup, but I'm assuming even a pair of 175W would be sufficient in this tank right?

Cheers!

Yes just keep the clam up high and supplement feed with DTS just as a safety net.

I think if you are diligent with the feeding a deresa might do ok. Let me know if you try it.
