parents got me a clam. Need Advice?

hi all,

i apologize in advance for how ignorant i am on this subject.
Okay for starters my parents bought me a new clam yesterday I have no idea what kind it is. The tank has metal halides and is six months old with good water parameters and a strong current. The problem is when i put the little fella in the tank i was hoping i could place him on the tank floor which is just glass.(the tanks a barebottom) Only problem is whenever he closes or opens he falls over. I notice he had what lookes like a foot or something, but unfortunatley i scraped it and a piece fell off but it is still largely intact(i think this is bad though owing to my experience with anemones). I was thinking i could place him on the rocks, if i do how do i get him to stay there and where abouts should he be? Any input would be appreciated and if he opens up (right now hes semiclosed) ill take some pics. Sorry if this sounds like garbled nonsense but bear with me. thanks in advance!!!!!

See if you can find out what kind just for your info, but with Mh keep it low.I have PC so I can put them up high .But I have mine in rock crevest. If your clam is smaller then 4" you need to feed also.maybe you can put a little piece of rock on the bottom or on both sides of it.Or others cut a piece of PVC and place it on that but I hate the look. Please post pic and some one will tell you what you have.

Post a pic anyway, we should be able to tell what kind it is from the pic. Prolly needs to be on rock, unless it is a Dersea, or Gigas, and from your description of the foot, I doubt it is either.

You could also put it in a dish of some kind to hold it upright on the tank bottom until you figure out what it is. Or put some rocks around it to hold it upright.
