Oh No

I think my clam is a gonner. I just got home and it's fully receded with a HUGE gaping hole. I noticed it was gaping a little bit yesterday and today but really didn't think anything of it. I haven't done anything differently in my tank other than use "brightwell" phosphate remover. could the phosphate remover do this. it is in a liquid form. this sux. My first clam ever and it has done so good for so long and now WHAMMO!!!

If it were me,.. and it looks as bad as you describe, I would probably do a fresh water dip in an attempt to save it. For me it has worked wonders in the past.

Huh,... Well,.. I guess that tells us that those phosphate removers only work with that product then

I wouldn't use it,.. not that I'm saying it caused this,.. just that I don't like putting things like that in my reef,.. get a phosban reactor and FE based PO4 media if you really want to remove P04 by a media.

I'm going to tell you how I do it,.. but this is not the best way,.. Normally when I get ready to do this I consider the clam a gonner anyway, and this is a quick last ditch attempt.

I put tap water in a bucket at about 80 Deg and drop the clam in for about 20 min. That's it.

This is very stressfull,.. and there's probably a better way,.. but it's saved 3 clams for me,.. and one it couldn't save.

it was formulated by a (unnamed)marine scientist.....so it must be good

that stuff is expensive. geesh

quote:

Notes: Phosphate test kits may show a false-positive reading after aquarium has been treated; this is a result of the chemical mechanism by which phosphate test kits operate and does not indicate that the product has failed to perform its intended function. The higher the percentage of bound phosphate removed by filtration, the more accurate test kit readings will be.

lol. Too bad they dont mention where exactly the phosphate goes. Poofa.......it just disappears.
