I've said the exact same thing before.

I brought a Crosea back from IL,.. he looked healthy enough but after 2 weeks still had made no attempt to attach,.. I suspected Byassal gland injury (basically there's no saving them,.. they get infected and die) but wasn't sure.

One day it looked perfectally fine.
Next day it was an empty shell with the guts floating around.

It took out the clam sitting right next to it too That was really, really sad. He was dead a day or couple days later.

at this point I'm glad I spent the money on a wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy oversized skimmer for this tank.

any other reasons a clam wont' attach?
how can you tell if the gland is injured?

If I could tell I wouldn't have bought it

It could be simply not happy,.. but if the gland is damaged death is usually in about a month.
