New Derasa Clam ---Placement?

Hello
I just purchased my first clam, an aquacultured derasa. I have 192w of PC lighting on a standard 30 gallon tank, with a DSB, leaving about 13" depth from light to sand. Should I move him closer to the light, he is currently in the sand. Also he is about 3 1/2" long. Does he need to be target fed in a bowl. Thanks in advance---Anthony

They say after 3" you don't need to feed, but it probably isn't a bad idea. The deresa's like to be on a substrate, so you'd need something with sand in it to be able to move him higher. They don't like to be on rocks. 192 watts seems like it might be sufficient, in my opinion. There are some who say halide only, but your lighting should suffice. You may want to raise him up some on some kind of platform to get a little more light. Watch him closely, check his growth, and give him a good home! Congrats on your new addition!

make sure your calcium levels are good b/w 400 and 450ppm and do the occasional target feeding as it ma not be the best light
