moving a clam

Is there anyway to move a clam, once it has attached itself to rock? Problem is, it is not facing up to the light. It is on it's side.

From what little I know, if the clam is not happy there, it will move itself. It will either straighten itself, or it will un-attach and move. But someone who knows better can chime in and correct me.

Definitely not recommended but you can cut the byssal gland with a sharp razor/knife where it is attached to the rock (closest to the rock not the clam).

I have done this more than once with Derasa's, Maxima's and yes even Crocea's. I am always paranoid for a day or 2 afterwards but have never lost a clam yet.

The byssal gland goes directly into the clam's stomach per say so DO NOT PULL ON IT or put any pressure on it you will pull the clams insides out. Just cut the gland as close to the rock as possible.

Again I am not recommending this but it can be done.
