maxima?

I am wondering if I can add a small maxima clam in my 14 gal biocube tank, they say it is 1.5 inches? I have added a 3rd 24-watt light for a total of 72 watts. I am currently in the process of getting my 125 gal setup so i can transfer it over to the larger tank as soon as it is set up. But for a couple of months will it be able to strive?

24w as in T5? If you have T5, do you have individual parabolic reflectors?

Anything other than T5 (with indiv. reflectors) or MH, I suggest to hold off on the maxima. It would survive, but not thrive; and you may end up with too weak of clam to recover after a couple weeks under inadequate lighting.

x3 on that. You might be able to do a Crocea though, they're not as high light demanding as the Maximas. They're also one of the slower growing so you wouldnt need to worry about space running out so quickly.

Do you have T5's?

Croceas are actually just as light demanding as maximas.

Squamosa would work, along with deresa, gigas, and H. hippopus. All of these clams can get very large. The gigas can get over 3 feet. It will generally take years to outgrow a 14g tho, let alone a 125.

if you really want a clam check out the gigas clam they are filter feeders but in such a small tank it could be difficult to keep your parameters in check and prove to be fatal. they really need to be in much larger tanks. i know you want someone to say yes but it is better to buy for the tank you have now and not the tank you may have.

Chris is right, you'll have to have a very good handle on your calc, alk & mag values. It can definitely be done in that small of tank, but it requires a lot of work.

Great choice. They are much more happy in a larger, well lit, stable tank.
