Looking to add clams to tank

I have a 2 year old 100 gallon reef tank. I'm looking to add clams to the tank. i have 2 250 watt MH bulbs; 30" high tank. Any thoughts on type of clams to add. Looking for clams that are more hardy. Where to place to the clams in the tank.

where is the best place to buy them?

thanks.

I'm not sure on the best place to buy a clam but if you read the Clam FAQ at the top of this fourm it will give you good things to look for when buying a new clam

If your worried about keeping them, I usually recommend trying Durassa first - they need less light, and it tends to be easier to tell if their happy,.. but if you successfuly keep SPS then I would recommend just going with one you like the color of.

Durassa like to be placed in the sandbed,.. Crosea, and maxima like the rock - and need a bit more light as well. The biggest clam related problem I've had are fish that nip at them,.. make sure all your fish are clam safe first

Welcome to TRT!

Almost any of the Tridacna clams (which are those common in the hobby) would work in your setup, you just have to consider placement and potential size when you select the one you like. I've had good success with clamsdirect.com (when they have stock) and liveaquaria.com. If you've got specific questions about a species, ask away in this thread and we'll try to help!
