The best nano clam is the crocea since it will only get up to 6"; but they need MH or an intense fluorescent array.

I have a maxima in my 20, but I plan on him being the centerpiece of the tank when he gets full size.

Oh yes, these guy suck a lot of calc and alk, so frequent supplementation is required; especially in a nano.

Bemo has an awsome crocea in his 12g nano but he also has MH over it. you can do any clam if you get the lighting for it.

You can do a canopy for it, that will keep the top covered but blow air in one side and out the other.

Crosea, I agree, is the only real choice here, but IMHO it requires MH, at least 150W MH too, as the tank is too small to jam enough floressents above it.

I think that would be a very in-effective way of lighting your tank. Plus you couldn't view it because the light would be in the way.

I would just build something to cover the top and use the light normally.
