I have an ORA Derasa, not the greatest shot but you get the idea.

I've got 3 very large Derasa's (as well as a Crocea and 2 small Maximas) in my 180gal... here's a FTS, the Derasa's are on the sand bed. One on the left side and two on the right side. The largest one on the right is about a 14 incher.

Thanks ReefTanker... they are getting really BIG. Pretty bad, but the 3 Derasa's actually have names. From right to left it's Hugo, Mongo and then Fred. I've had them for over a year and a half now, but they were pretty big when I got them. Here's a shot of my tank before I lost a bunch of my SPS:

I took a small break after the loses and just let the tank go on auot-pilot pretty much, it really sucked!!!... but now I'm back into it full swing.

Here's one more recent shot from the right side of the tank... you can see all 3 Derasa's and my large Crocea up on the flat rock right in the middle of the pic:

I'm done now, I promise.

Not 100% sure, but I've narrowed it down to a few possibilities.

For one, I had just changed out my sump for one I DIY'd to hold a larger skimmer. The tank I used was a 50gal breeder that I picked up second hand from a fellow reefer. Not sure if maybe it had been previously treated with medications or not, I was told it wasn't...

Another issue was my RKII was having temp issues and I didn't realize it. The indications were showing normal, but found that it was running a lot hotter then it was indicating.

I had also started dosing Tech M mag around this time frame. Not sure if it's related or not, but lets just say I quit using it after I did a little research.

These are things that I can come up with, but chances are there could be something else. After the SPS started to die off, I had a pretty bad algae break out most likely due to the excessive nutrients in the tank. I couldn't hardly bring myself to look at the tank... it was a mess. I pulled a trash bag full of skeletons out of the tank around March, this was about 5-6 months after I started having issues.

aww man that is depressing, I have been there, I almost gave up when I lost a bunch of LPS. Your tank is making a great comeback so keep doing whatever you are doing

Thanks Kyuss...

I know what you mean about almost giving up... it's almost like a piece of you goes with it, I was almost there too.

It took a while for me to get the initiative up to pull out all of the coral skeletons. When I did, thats when I decided I would just going to do it better this time. I've added a lot of SPS since, most of which are LE's... figured if I was going to do it all over again, I'd do it right.

Now I've just got to get everything ready to start my 300gal build.

Thanks reefcrazydude, that thing is awesome, except it's not a Derasa... it's a Giga's!!! and from the looks of him, he's HUGE!!!

I have wanted a Gigas for a looooong time, they get incredibly large. If you ever need to get rid of him, definately let me know.

Very, very nice!!!
