Question

Hard Clams(Northeast Local)

Has anyone had any luck with local clams, harvested from local waterways.
I have a few that were bound for the dinner table..but made it into my tank.
which i just started...i know not the best idea when cycling a tank..but 4 weeks later and they are all still alive and moving around a LOT!
One even spawned...probably due to increase in water temps.
tank is at a constant 78 degrees.

are they good to have...what should i be feeding them...and so on
thanks

believe it or not I have a littleneck clam in my system, started out just as an experiment, evrybody told me no way he would make it, (got him on ice at the grocery store), my tank is a constant 78, and it's been about 4 months now and seems to be doing fine, he stays dug in a lot, but for the dollar or so that I paid for him its been interesting.

those pure filter feeding clams are usually difficult to keep. most of the time our tanks are to clean and they starve. the good news is that they are just about as good as a protein skimmer. the problem being is that they do produce wastes, while a PS does not.

very interesting...when i got them one even spawned due to the temp change.
good news is...i'm getting a protien skimmer soon.
but they seem to be doing just fine.

one thing to consider..is these clams move around a lot. so if you have a lot of loose rock work, i would not put them in.
they are always tearing up the bottom of my tank.
not sure if that is the best either.

but thet seem happy
