gold maxima
just bought a small aquacultered gold maxima from lfs today, probably 1.5" I have 3 400W 12K reeflux bulbs, already have 2 larger blue/purple crocea. Not sure where to put the little guy and the feeding if any is needed for it?

If it were me I would probably place it at the bottom initally then move it up to it's final spot. I would place this clam somewhere between the bottom and 1/2 way up depending on your preference.
I have a book that blows the thery that small clams need to be fed wide open, I even bought a very small maxima to prove it to myself. I don't feed my small clams, and the small one I got is growing very fast.
The problem is though that small clams are way more touchy than large ones,.. I almost killed mine in Q, so keep that in mind.

FWIW.........
Remember that little gold maxima i lost a few weeks ago whiskey???
looked ok one day and then was an empty shell the next. It was the first really small clam i have ever had and after we talked about it when i first got it, i decided to try the no food thing as i really dont like to target feed anything anyway. I was easily persuaded....haha
To be sure.......no blame going your way......... lol
Anyways, Im just saying it was the only clam ive ever killed. I would probably be inclined to bowl feed the next small clam i had.

put in the sand or on top of a rock? I was told to use a 2 liter pop bottle, cut out the bottom and put over it so any food would stay near it when I feed my corals.

I had luck with 2 croceas that were about an inch long with no feedings. They were happy and growing for 6 months before my tank crashed.

The Book I'm reading (by James Fatheree) on clams says that all boal feeding does is stress the clam, and clog it's gills.

I would place a small rock for it to attach to in the sand and place it there till it attaches, then you can place this rock where you want it.
Maxima's are rock clams,... but I prefer to have them attached to a smaller rock in case I ever need to dip them for pinched mantle or prymaid snails or anything.

to be sure.......i didnt claim thats what killed it.......
It was just the only clam ive had die. It was also the only clam under 3" ive ever had. I think in the future I will stick to 3" or more to add to my tanks.

ok I have had over 52 clams and the only ones I have lost small were from not feeding them it helps them if done right and if you do put to much in the bowl as most people probably do ,it can kill them fast,I still think small small clams benefit from the feeding as all previous books have taught.
