Funky lookin mantle on my squamosa

It isn't like this all the time, but the last few days I have noticed it twice, and the clam has moved like 45 degrees. Any thoughts...Is this serious?

First I would rule out a fish nipping at the mantel and look for pyramellids snails. These snails can be very small and hard to find so look carefully.

I haven't seen any snails and I have a sixline wrasse for snail control. I'll double check though.

You will have to inspect the shell very closely to see the snails, pay close attention to the scales. I have seen snails on clams that looked like a grain of sand stuck in the vertical folds of the scales. Also look at the under side of the clam because the snails tend to stay away from the light.

Does the clam look like it's under attack by snails? If so what should I do? I don't get home for another 3 hours, but I'll check the clam out as soon as I get there

I discovered a hole.

Don't know where it came from or caused it. Anyone?
