yeah this is my first. I found out the hard way that they use alot of alk/cal! Flyguy came over and helped me on this. Tank was way low but the guy was hanging in there. Now I'm actually dosing with 2 part and it's working out pretty good.

tank is 50 gal with 15 gallon sump, dual 175 watt mh lights, with cls. I have a reeflo snapper running my cls. it's something like 2800 gph or something like that.

I wrote an FAQ on clams (Stuck at the top of this Fourm) at the bottom of it (Last post in the thread) I have a bunch of data about phyto and clams, it mostly relates to busting the myth that small clams need to be fead phyto, but it applies here too. The data is from James Fatheree's book, and though clams needing to be fead is still debated, I do not think it's true. I bought a clam that was very small and purposally did not feed it because I had faith in the data presented in that book. My clam grew at a tremendous rate, and is still healthy, now twice the size it was.
Don't forget that there is plenty of detritus and naturally occuring phyto present in your tank for the clams to eat without adding any
