Finally got a maxima clam...one question though.

Yes! Ive wanted a clam forever and finally got one today. He is about 4 inches long and really gold. Ill post a pic when I get home from work.
My question:
I have 1x150 watt metal halide hqi 20,000 k and 2 full actinic 55 watt PC.
I have a 29 gallon. The clam is in the sand and he has opened up and looks great. Is 150 watts of MH and placement in the sand sufficient or should I move him up the rock some?

From what I have read it is appropriate to place the clam low in the tank, and gradually move it up in the tank. When the clam stops showing it mantle is when it is to high in the tank and recieving too much light. Then move it down a step. This is what I have read! and not my first hand expeirence. The process is similar to Stony corals

Maxima clams like to be mounted to rockwork, they will attach to the rock, and even bourrow down in to it a bit. My advice is to set him in a dip in a small rock so he can attach to that. Then put him right back where you had him, slowly moving him up the rocks as Morgan suggested.

Maxima clams are one of the highest light clams, and I don't think you can give him too much with a 20K 150W.

Oh, the reason for attaching him to the small rock is so you can move him where you want him without detaching him from his rock, just move the rock where you want the clam to be. If you use a larger rock that is difficult.
