Dumb Question?

I'm also new to the clam business and have a gold maxima and a blue green ultra. I was wondering if there is a right side up on a clam or should the mantle placed straight up and down in positioning? I currently have them angled towards the front of the glass and the gold hasn't done much of anything in 24 hrs. They are both ~3" and under 250w MH on the sandbed in my 125. I am acclimating my entire tank to the MH since they are new so they are probably around 13 or 14" off the water do I need to move the clams up for now?
Thanks for the help, clams are truly a unique part of this hobby

If you just added them give them time. It wouldn't hurt to move them up a little in the tank, but I say just be patient. :-) I have 3 clams, 2 are standing straight up, the other seems to like it on his side. All three are doing well. So, to answer your initial question, nope, there is no "right" way to situate them. Since the clams are under 3" in size, are you adding any phytoplankton to the tank to help them since they arn't quite to the size of maximizing the light from the MH's?

yes I have been attempting to target feed with some DT's every other day. I can't tell if they are really taking it in but regardless it will be in the water for them to filter out anyway. I do have the MH up at about 13" off the water acclimating the rest of the inhabitants to the more intense lighting so I will keep an eye on them and move up if necesary.
