Deresa Question
3.5" Deresa completely closed for 2 days.
??
I moved a rock he was on.........didnt really change the position he was in in the tank but he is COMPLETELY closed.
I just pulled him out to do the smell test and he doesnt stink......YET
Ive never had a clam compeltely close up on me like this. In fact *knock on wood*....ive never had a problem with any of my clams
Does this mean he is dying or is there anything i can do but just wait to see if he wil open??

Yeah...there are none to be seen............
Likei said he was open wide as could be before i moved him. I may have slightly tore his foot is what im thinking.......
However...if i did...it was VERY slight and ive accidentally done that before with other clams with no issues.
EDIT- Nevermind......i just went and looked at him and he looked the same completely closed up.........i did the smell test again and he failed it this morning. He is now in my rock/flowergarden along with all the rest of my shells/skeletons i cant help but collect over time

That stinks,.. I bet I know what happened,...
My friend had a hermit fall into his clam, the clam, annoyed, snapped shut because he thought he was being attacked. The crab was still in the clam though, so the clam stayed shut until it eventually died.
Sorry to hear,
Whiskey

Interesting Whiskey.
So if you were to actually witness that....would it be almost better to pry it open and turn it upside down trying to get rid of the snail or crab??
It would have been a snail if thats indeed what happened....i dont keep any crabs

Didn't see this.
Ya, I think your in a bad spot either way here, but prying it open may be your best bet. A friend of mine had to do that with a coral that got chomped in a clam.

Did your friends clam live after prying it open???
The one in question is already in clam heaven............im going to go out in my rock/flowergarden in a while and see if i can find him in the 6" of snow that is on the ground and check to see if indeed something fell inside him

Her Clam was fine except for a chipped shell afterward, but it was not really the same thing because the coral was sticking out, but still with that coral in there the clam was not going to open back up.
Let us know!
