Derasa directly on sand?

I've got a nice derasa. He's about 6 inches or so. Very established tank and clam.

I've only had the tank since May. Former owner said to place the clam on a rock rather than the sand. Problem is he keeps getting tipped over during the night. Driving me crazy. Set him on the sand this morning and everything seemed fine when I got home from work. Former owner was worried about a certain type of worms, but I've not had any problems with worms.

Anyone have an opinion on whether to keep the clam in the sand?

I have all 3 of my clams on the sand and they are doing fine. Your clam may be jumping off the rocks and not just getting bumped. But My blue rimmed derasa has been on the sand floor for a little over a year and has grown and is doing well. (now that he isn't getting irritated by the toadstool..)

I would not be overly concerned about a derasa on the sandbed.......

I have had this fella in the sand for the last 3 years, since he was just a wee lad..., and I have never had any trouble. I have seen bristle worms near his anchor but no damage, more for the shelter of the big guy I think. My card is in front of him for scale, not just a cheap pitch. Ryan@advancedreef.com
