Crocea & lighting needs
okay... general question for all of you crocea owners.
what kind of lights do you have, and how close to the light do you have the clam ?
i'm wondering if i could attempt one or if i should not bother.
FWIW, i have 8x54W T5 TEK fixture, ~6" above the water surface.
i will be setting up a new tank sometime this year with a smaller (T5) fixture, tank will be more shallow, and lights will be closer to the surface.
J.

I've got a couple croceas with 7 T5 bulbs. They're both on the bottom, but I think they'd be a bit happier a little higher up. And since I'm overdriving my bulbs, you're probably best sticking them about half-way up or higher in your rocks. But, you should be able to keep one with out too much trouble.

I kept them under 2X175MH and 2X90W actinic VHO, half way up the rock. It worked fine for me. I'm so not up on T5 technology, so couldn't help you there.

3 x 250 MH and 8 T-5 actinics, halfway up the tank.
You don't have to go this strong, though.

You will be fine with the T5's. Do they have individual reflectors?
I have kept croceas under 250MH from the sand to up high in the rock. I currently have them on the sand in my 140 under 400W MH. PAR on my sand bed is about 150.

I've had two croceas and a derasa kept under 260 watts of PC lighting. All three did great! The two croceas I kept a little bit higher up on the rocks which made removing them next to impossible. A little while back I upgraded to T-5's and they did even better.
