Cool new Clam!!!!
Remember I said that I was confident enough in the data in the book I am reading that I was going to go out and find a Clam that is under 3" and not feed it? Well I did, I was at a LFS this weekend and saw the most spectacular Maxima I have ever seen for sale locally!!! It's a beautiful blue color, with darker blackish patterns, and it's shell is about 1.5-2".
The problem:
While we were looking my friend noticed Montipora Eating Nudis on a montipora in the tank holding the clam That's IMHO one of the worst things you can possibly get.
I had been setting up a Quarantine tank recently (running for the last 2 weeks or so), to Q all SPS, but it's un-tested and not equipped for clams, it's a 15G with a few powerheads, heater, and 110W of PC lighting.
Well, I couldn't resist, I bought the clam, and it's currently in Q, but I am very worried about it making the 2 week Q period. A larger clam could deal with not enough light for longer, it may take up to 6 months to die, but a small one,.... I don't know, they are far more delicate for sure. I really hope this one can make it through, I also really wish that I had had a chance to test my Q tank on some frags before throwing this Clam in there.
Wish me luck!

Thanks! When I saw that clam I had to pick my jaw up off the floor, I was devistated when my buddy pointed out the monti eating nudies in the same tank.
That is why I hope so much that it makes it through the Q period.

Day three for the clam. How is it doing? Any signs of stress?
And thanks for the picture. I might buy a clam for my Christmas present.

No, the clam is doing great! It is getting about 8,000 Lux with it's current setup, which is a fair ammount of light, but in my SPS tank (under the MH) even the bottom of the tank gets close to 15,000 Lux, but I have measured other people's tanks with 20K MH and found that high light spots in there tanks bearly break 10,000, so I don't know,....

No prob, that would be a really cool Christmas present I think, if you need any more convincing check out the FAQ thread, there are plenty of very nice pics of clams in there
