Clams in a nano?
Hey guys...
What clam would be best for a 15 gallon Nano? I've got 110 watts of PC light on it. I'm thinking croceas, cuz they grow slowly and aren't big...any other thoughts?

You should have MHs for croceas and maximas for them to do well.

So even though the farthest they would be from the lights is 12", they would still need MH lighting?

Maybe you could go with dereseas? I just don't know, they might, maybe you could see if one works, if he's not happy, you could immediatly take him to a (preditermined) home? That's not abuse is it?

jeepjon,
There are those out there that would disagree with me but IMHO for a crocea or maxima you should have a MH.
Reefdude5,
A derasa I think would do well in jeepjon's tank but it would quickly out grow the tank. If he had a new home for the clam after it out grew the tank I agree, no abuse there. He could give it too me , I wouldn't mind.

Well, we could work something out where if it outgrew my tank, I could send it to you, and you could pay the postage! I wouldn't mind doing that!

I mean...or work a trade of some sorts....with some SPS frags or something...I don't know how much clams are worth right now, I haven't priced them in a long while...but I'm sure we could work something out when it outgrew my tank. The only problem I would foresee is getting it from Cleveland to Georgia...

jeepjon,
I was mostly joking. If you want to send me a clam that outgrew your tank I would be happy to pay shipping or do a trade, but I think you could find a good home for a healthy clam in your area which would be better for the clam in the long run. Don't get me wrong, I'd take it, but you should be able to sell it for as much as a new smaller one would cost.

Yeah, i'd take it too! BUt it would probably be better for the clam if you found a home there! Oh, don't give/sell it back to the lfs, for a clam to go to the lfs, then to you, then back, then to someone else, is okay for most fish, but not for clams, IMO

I Agree with Reefdude5 100%, if it goes back to a LFS you have no idea if the next person who buys it will have a good home for the animal you took such loving care of.

There's really only one LFS around me that I would even trust with a clam...so I would most likely give it to a person anyway..heck, there's really only one LFS around here I would trust with a SW fish...

with most of the LFS's around...I wouldn't...I guess their objective is to sell animals, not take care of them!
