The clams at the LFS aren't going to be there for long. (Hopefully.) That's how they're getting away with it.
Yes, clams require a lot more than plain ol' flourescent lighting.

That's what I thought.I was always interested in them but I don't have the lighting needs at this time for for a clam.

How deep is the tank? Maybe the less light needing ones, like Squasmosa and Deresa, I wouldn't suggest croacea or maxima though. I'm by no means an expert so wait for some others opinions. I love clams, they're awsome!

Hayday I think you would do fine with a clam under that lighting! Squasoma clam for sure and maybe a maxima as well!

I wish I could do the same! I have 2 96watt full spectrum, 2 96 watt actintic, and 2 175watt 20,000k MHs on a 120 that is 24" deep. I've been told this is too deep without 250s for clams, although my Maxima seems to be doing fine!

I think as long as you place them high in the rocks they should be just fine with the 175MH's.
