Clams and a Biocube 29G tank
Can a stock Biocube support a Crocea clam?
I'd like to add a clam to my tank in 5 months but I don't know if my tank will support one as it is.
If it won't as is what do I need to do so it will support a clam?

What lighting do you have on that tank? Is it Power Compact? Or the upgraded MH fixture?

Depending on what kind of clam you want to get,.. but the only ones that can do okay under that light, quickly get far too big for your tank, and with there growth rates keeping CA and ALK under control would be a major challenge.
I think your best bet if you really want a clam is to upgrade to MH lighting.

Totally.
You could build a canopy with fans to vent it,..that's how I got past that problem

The Sunpod I was looking at has fans and it sits about 6" off the tank so I don't think heat would be a problem. It's making a flat plastic lid that won't sag or melt from the output of the light.

I'm getting a 20 inch Sun Pod system with 1x150W 14K HQI-MH 6/6 next month.
oceandude did you just leave your tank open?
And yes I know it will out grow my tank... but by the time it's to big I hope to have a 90G Deep Sea tank up and running and will move it over to it after it's been running for a month or more. This tank is my test to see if I can manage a salt tank or not.

Get a Dersa clam it will do fine under pc's. I would hold out on the crocea until you get Metal halides!

the problem is that a derasa can get well over 2 feet, so it's not a great choice for the nano.

There is a MH hood for that tank and there are plenty of upgraded hoods that can run MH lights. Check out www.nanotuners.com
I growout tiny clams in a 24 and they do fine under t-5 lighting. Once they get larger keeping Ca and Alk in check can become tough and requires lots of water changes and dosing. Usually at this point I find a larger home for them.

oh yea. i agree. taking on a nano tank requires a special kind of insanity, trust me i know i have a 12 gallon pain in my A.
also it blocks out alot of cool species, but if you dont have the room for a full tank or the money then one is your best bet.
me and my tank have a love/hate relationship because of this.

Yes, I left my tank open. All the clams are open. Besides the good lighting, they love Phyto Feast. They are spreading over their mantle at a good rate. Naturally, I keep a good check on all of the parameters.
