Clam Withdrawn

Have had Crocea for about 3 months now and all has been fine. Calcium is fine, ph, nitrate etc. In a 55 gal tank with Odysea power compacts about 6 months old. but caulerpa is starting to over take the tank and block some light so I plan on thinning it out today in the hopes it will perkup with the additional light. Have a metal halide in a 27 gal that I could put it in but it would be a shock as it is stacked high with live rock and the clam would be about 6 inches from the surface. Ideas?? He has been fully displayed until this AM.

Crocea clams like allot of light, and it is not really reccomended that they be kept under powercompacts, because unless you have allot of them the clam usually doesn't survive past a few months.

I would move him to the tank with the MH, toward the tank bottom at first, then in a week or so move him to the top of the rockwork. I think it will really appreiacate the move.

Also remember at 6 months PC's loose about 20-30% PAR, and it is reccomended to change the bulbs between 6-9, months. I have a light meter, and the amount of light really does drop off this fast.

I have noticed that my red gracilleris (sp) is not doing as well in either the lighted sump or the main tank. My original thought was the caulerpa was competing for nutrients but I think you are right it may be more the intnsity of the light is down and I am going on my 6th month. I like the look of the power compact hood but not so sure I would have been better off with a metal halide in the begining. On another note my soft corals still seem to be doing pretty well.
