Clam Q
i just upgraded my light to a point where i can support clams.
But my tank is a tiny lil 18 gallon.
would it even be worth my time to get one of those lil baby clams, and keep it for a while, or would it just get to big for my lil tank?
i guess im asking, how fast they grow?

crocea clams will stay under 6" or so, but you'll need strong lighting for it. Some of the others, like a derasa, would outgrow the tank in a couple years with ease.

If it were me I would hold off on a clam until you get a larger tank, though you could do it, clams take allot of CA and Alk up really fast, and it would be tough to keep up with.

OOOOOOH!
I got it
We can design a Nano CA reactor for you out of 1 liter pop bottles
My first tank with a sump used PVC and a Vodka flask for an HOB overflow

I made a second column for my reactor out of a 2 liter coke bottle. but it was a major PITA to fill and change media. I replaced it with a really small reactor for my second column...and here's a link
http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_viewItem~idProduct~VA3111.html
add a regulator/needlevalve and pH controller of some sort and your set.. it really can't be beat for $50..it even has it's own recirculating pump built in and it comes with a HOB bracket...
I think for $150-$200 (if you shop around for deals) you can have that bad boy setup for your tank.
