Clam placement

I finally decided to make the leap and I bought a clam. I think I know the basics but I can't find the answer to one thing. I bought a Maxima and placed it in the sand directly below a halide. I had it facing straight up but I think the sand shifted and now it is laying on its side. Should I do something to make it face straight up or is it OK on its side. Also, are there any good articles out there that might be beneficial for new clam owners.
Thanks

Chuck,
You should place a flat rock under the maxima to give it something to attach to, this will allow it to stay upright. If you have space in the rockwork you may think about placing the clam higher, maximas do need a lot of light. As for good literature on tridacna, Daniel Knop's book Giant Clams is IMO a must read, it gives all the info you will need to be successful.
Hope this helps,
AlienDomain

That's good advice! Once it has attached itself to a rock you can angle it some so that it gets PLENTY of light and also so YOU get the best view of its color! What kind of lighting are you using?
