Clam new comer
Now I didnt get a clam yet just doing some questioning right now before I commit to getting one. Now I have a 30 gallon tank with a false P clownfish and a really weird yellowtailed damsel fish which is afraid of the clownfish for some reason anyway I also have a bunch of hermit crabs and snails but my question is will I get away with having a clam under a 10,000k light? I dont know if it would be okay for a crocea since I heard they need HIGH lighting but what about a squamosa? Thanks in advance

10000K is only the color of the bulb, what kind of light is it? Power compact, VHO, T5, metal halide? That'll play a good part of it.
In terms of the squammy, they can get pretty big, 16" or so, so keep that in mind. It may outgrow your tank, and will very likely suck down a good amount of alk/calc when it's larger. Not to say it wouldnt make a great addition.

No, I don't think you'd be able to house a clam if it's just a one or two regular fluorescent bulbs. I'd recommend getting a new lighting system. What are the dimensions of your 30 gallon tank? something like a 4 bulb T5 setup would probably suffice, I can give you a few links to nice setups if you let me know what the footprint of that tank is.

You are making a wise decision.
Just keep in mind that as things progress with you in this hobby that eventually you will end up getting much better lighting and then you can look into getting a clam if you want to.

Don't worry, I don't kick anybody in this hobby.
I have been there, done that, myself and do not want to go that route again, that is the reason for my signature line.
As for the question on if that will be enough light for a Crocea I am not sure, but hopefully this bump will get someone else to chime in.

I don't know that those lights alone would be sufficient. Do you have a link to the fixture? Do the bulbs have individual reflectors?

What about a deresa? They do get big, but they will take the lower light the best of the clams. Maybe when it starts getting too big you can trade it in for a smaller one? Is your tank a 30 or a 29? a 29 is 30" long and a 30 is 36" long. A tank with a lower profile will let the light reach more of the tank itself.

well I guess it is a 29 gallon then I was told that it was 30. but I did a little about the dersa and they get 24" thats huge but not as big as that gigas right? is that the one that gets 4 feet? anyway this is the t5 I could only get at the moment (bills bills bills) but it might work for just my coral at the moment I am not really really sure about a clam anymore with this lighting javascript:void( window.open( 'Images.aspx?ItemID=42901124', 'ZoomImage', 'height=610,width=450' ) )
