chalk up low S.G. to clam bleaching.

i will not tell you how low it got. but over the next week i raised it back up to where it is suppose to be. the colour has come back and all is well.

I have about 9 clams right now in my 75g. A Crocea that I bought about 3 mos. ago began to bleach out recently. The clam had always sort of gaped so I neverreally had a whole lot of hope for it but nevertheless, I gave it to a buddy of mine to put into his tank that is still cycling. The nitrates are through the roof and I thought maybe the clam could feast on them for a bit and possibly recieve some much needed nutrient. Needless to say the clam, now under 110w of PC lighting, high nitrate nitrite and all has regained its color. Go figure eh??

interesting. sounds like you were feeding it the wrong stuff. do not know what else you could be feeding it, but it does sound like it did not like it.

one of those, you never can tell what a critter will want to eat.

I was feeding him DT's...I feed all of my clams DT's. While he was bleaching he was also putting on shell, like a cm every 2 months. The clam was greowing but losing its zoo. BTW our reef club had Anthony calfo out a few months ago and he suggested that you run the DT's through a blender to try and knock down the partical size. Just an FYI..
