Need some help asap. I noticed as I was leaving for work today that my
crocea clam didn't look right. I turned the lights on to find that the end of the clam with the large slit opening was gaping. On closer inspection it looked as if some mantle was lost and that end of the clam was retracting into the shell. The opposite side of the clam still looks normal.
There have been no recent changes to the tank other than the additoin of a
powder blue tang. I don't have any tank levels to give you yet, I'll have to check levels when I get home this evening, but all the SPS seem fine with growth tips etc ... so I am assuming that the Ca and ALK are still fine and there haven't been any temp or salinity swings that I have evidence for.
Of note, this clam has never attached itself to the rockwork I have palced it on. It has tended to stay put for a week or so, then I find it on its side on the sandbed. The last time I gave it a good look over was two days ago, and at that time it looked normal with good mantle extention. This morning it looks like it is starting to watse away. I've had it for 3 months and it seemed to be doing well. Any ideas on what is going on and what I can do to save it?
