Question

Clam feeding ?

I picked up a small crosea this week that is about 2.5 inches. I know they need to be spot feed, is it ok to put it in a small bowl with some phyto and tank water to feed it. How long do I leave it in there and how many times a week should I feed it.

Feed it 3 times a week for 15 to 20 mins or until the water is clear again do not put to much phyto in the water.

most LFS dont even feed them at all and some LFS raise clams from about 1/2inch long all the way up to 3inches without being fed...all they need is strong lighting.

Clams under 3" must be feed they do not have enough mantle exstension to absorb enough light, clams over 3" just need strong light.

well im not trying to disagree with you, because thats what i "believed" and still sort of believe too, but there is a LFS that has little tiny clams about 1/2inch and they dont get fed...they are just directly under some very intense light, they seem perfectly healthy and they are not put for sale untill they reach about 3inches.....again im not trying to bash or anything of that nature, just what i have witnessed and seen....but who knows, maybe they do feed them, they just say otherwise.............

i really would post pics and or name the store in question here, but i dont feel like someone jumping down my throat for doing that so i wont....they have maybe 80 of the little 1/2inchers and i guestimate that they have about 150+ 2inch or larger clams. Again i didnt understand it either....but no one method has ever been proven to work 100%, 100% percent of the time....

Remember guys that a normal tank produces phyto, and a old dirty tank will produce tuns of phytoplancton, that could be how the clams are living and growing out.

Let me just say the final analysis in the recent publication = something close to, you don't have to feed clams specifically at any size. I need to reread and reread again, so don't quote me yet. LOTS of interesting stuff about the zoax content getting lower per body weight, not higher.... bah got to work...
