Clam adivce
After reading the sticky, I am still not sure if I can house a clam. I have a Current T-5 216 watt light, so that’s just over 4:1 light:gallon ratio. The tank has been up for 4 months, I have proper flow for a Corcea, I have a small rock I can place him on incase I need to move it. Btu I have never owned on and I am somewhat new to the “salt life”. I am going to purchase a CA and ALK test kits today. If my parameters are not satisfactory, who do I raise the CA and ALK? Also how do I keep them stable?

The LFS will sell a 2 part additive that you can use to boost CA and ALK, one part will be the CA, the other the Alk. Test your levels and if you find them to be too low you can use the reef chemistry calculator, and your brand of additive, to find out how much you need to add to get them where you need them to be. Keeping it stable is simply a matter of testing regularly and boosting when you need to - eventually you will know your tank well enough to dose a certian ammount a certian number of times a week, and then just test weekly.
(shoot,.. I'll have to come back for a link to that)
Does your lighting have a individual refelector for each bulb? How big is your tank? What other corals do you have, for how long? How are they doing?

Well I have no current corals as of now, and it is one single reflector for all 4 bulbs. But after talking to the guy at my LFS, he put the nail in the coffin.. I have a Lemonpeel Angel that will probably nip at the clam. I thought about trading him in, but the girlfriend said NO! What are your thoughts on that?

What are my thoughts on your girlfriend?! Couldn't resist
Yeah,.. I'm thinking that Angel is going to be a big problem - you may just have to be sneaky and trade it in when she's not looking
I didn't say that

Trying to get you in trouble? No - not trying persay - more like throwing ideas out there and seeing what works
I think a Naso is going to cause problems for sure.
Alright! I got it,.. Were going to need some bondo, a damsel that would like to try life as an angel, and some yellow spray paint!
How closely does that girlfriend look at the tank? We may need someone with some automotive bodywork, and artistic training.
On the serious side of things, with your lighting, I would stick with Squmosa, Gigas, and Derassa clams - Crosea and Maxima may work at the top - but I would wait till you have more experiance with clams to try the tougher ones

7 fish is a lot already in a 52 gl tank, even if they are small. The lemonpeel may nip at almost any coral, and at a clam. You should probably stay away from tangs, most get very large, a naso is one of the bigger ones. Probably needs a 6 ft tank for adequate swimming room.

Agreed!
Yeah - 7 fish in a 52 is a whole lot,.. I would get rid of the lemon peel and not replace it ideally. I had 4 fish in my 50G, and that tank did pretty good I currently have 10 fish in my 180.

I know it is over stocked, but like most of us are probablt guilty of, I couldnt resist! I really like the lemon peel, so it is a trade off to get rid of him or stay away from corals. I like the painting idea!! She would definitely notice if the lemon peel goes missing. That is her favorite. How much bioload does the 2 damsels really produce?

Damsels are super agressive and will harrass most other fish. The lemon peel will eat corals. As for your lighting with a clam, I would never do it with single reflector T5. You need parabolic reflectors to make T5 effective enough for clams . I owned a LFS and at my store we never housed a clam in a tank without suffcient light. T5 with parabolic reflectors can compete quite readily with MH lights, but only because the reflector.

I agree that the lemon peel is one of the worst dwarfs in regards to picking on corals and clams, so I surely wouldnt try it with that fish. I'd also strongly reconsider getting a naso. It doesnt matter how small it is now, that fish can easily breach 18" as an adult. It's much better to buy fish for the tank you have, and not the tank you want.

Yeah Im not going to get the tang. I have been wanting it for 6 months now and havent gotten one yet for that reason. I think I might just not say anything and get rid of the angel.
