brine shrimp for clams?

I am getting back into Salt after a five year hiatus. During that time I raised and sold "Black Veiled Angels"....I hatched out and fed lots of Brine Shrimp to the Angel fry....

Can I feed Clams brine shrimp?

just thought I would ask, I loved the clams, had trouble getting them to thrive, but they sure are awesome!

Clams consume certain microscopic forms of phyto and zooplankton. Brine (even newly hatched) are simply too big for them to eat.

Nice bright lighting is really all you need to get a good healthy clam. Also, no need to feed them at all, they will do fine filtering out the incidental phyto that occurs naturally in a healthy tank.

+1 unless it's 3" or smaller then you need to feed.

Studies have been done and this is now been shown to be untrue. Not to say it doesn't help if they are fed the correct foods.

I've never fed (at least not intentionally) any of my clams with the exception of bright light as mentioned above. You should be fine either way, but if it were me I would stop adding the Selcon if you're only using it to try to feed the clam... the less you add to your water the better.

On the other hand, one thing you need to make sure of is that you keep your cal/alk and mag levels in check. I try to keep mine at the higher end of the spectrum to make sure they have everything they need to grow... but it can be tough when you've got a tank full of monster clams and SPS.

Have also done some studies on this and I agree with the statement above. BUT with that being said, it doesn't hurt.

And what would you know about clams?!!!

Just kidding of course Barry... glad to see you on here, hope all is well.

For those who don't know who Barry is, we all could learn a LOT from him when it comes to Tridacna.

yes! I lot of species actually eat something that's bigger than them!
