Bought a maxima yesterday - Need Advice

Hi,

I hope you guys can help. I bought a small maxima yesterday my first clam and it is about 1" - 2" in length, btw do you measure width or length? i know that I need to feed it regularly, 3 times a week? but didn't think about the bowl option until I read it here just now. I placed the clam on a rock yesterday (quite a large one) that is kind of cup shapped and am now thinking that I have done the wrong thing. If it hasn't attached should I move it to a flat rock and rest it between a couple of supports until it attaches?

Also where in the tank should it be the LFS said on the bottom, my tank is about 24" deep and i have 2 x 250w 14k MH bulbs, is the bottom too far away from the light?

thanks in advance

I would put it on a small shell to attach to on the sandbed that way you can move it if you ever want to.Measure length wise and yes bowl feed it 3 times a week until its 3 in length let me know if ya have any more ????

Casey thanks very much for that.

I guess by the way you say on the sandbed that I can keep the shell on the sandbed? I was at work when i posted earlier and the tank is only 20" deep and the lights are about 35" from the bottom. The clam has been opening nicely.

I have just placed it in a shell does it matter if the bottom of the clam is not touching the shell? will it's foot just extend down when it is ready? Also when feeding if I am correct I should put in enough water just to cover the clam and then make the water a little green with the photo (don't think I can get DT's in the UK) but I do have photo? Also would a bit of freeze dried cyclop-eeze be okay to put in the water as well?

Once again thanks for your help. My first clam but I love it already, can't wait to make sure I get on okay with this one and then buy another (but bigger this time)

or I do have some liquid life Marine Plankton that I could add to the water that also has cyclop-eeze in it.

Thank you, nice clam, I'll post a picture of my baby clam in a day or two.

It is now opening nicely resting in the shell. I'm glad about that, first thing that has gone right today . My purple square anthias is hiding, he has been behaving strangley for the last few days, I reckon he is on his last legs not even coming out when I am feeding today which he always does. Then about an hour ago my little boy just woke up said he felt sick and then as I carried him to the bathroom he threw up all in my hair and down my back the joys of parent hood, nice. Mind you he said he feels better now so thats good .

okay you got me, the pictures from the side were blured and as it has taken me long enough to get this far, thought I better post with what I had . It has probably grown by about 5 to 6 mm since I bought it.
