I can't remember offhand if its Squamosa or Derasa (deresa) thats considered good fior first attempt, i do know that it is commonly recommended that the tank be at least one year up and running before even attempting to house clams in there...

Sha23,

You are really going to push your luck with a clam. If you try getting one, get either a Squamosa or a Derasa (a Derasa is better as it accepts being placed on rocks easier than a Squamosa) and place it high in the water column.

As Icebar mentioned, water parameters are imprtant. Also, if the clam is less then 2.5 inches across from tip to tip you will need to feed it with DT.

DT? Maybe I should stay away from clams until I have more experience and a bigger tank and a better light and more money..I could go on forever Thanks, I'm glad I asked first before trying to get one.

Sha, don't get discouraged, they are very hard animals to keep. They do better in well established systems. I put my first one in my tank after about 4-5 years. You don't have to wait that long but you need to have a well established, stable system for them to do well. A derasa will do ok if it is at least half way up in the tank, direcly under the light. More light is always better.
HTH, Eric...
