Well guys,
I just want to say thanks to everyone for their support and wisdom, but tonight it all ended. I was at work last night and the clam turned itself over and fell down the rockwork.(It is attached to a sea shell) My wife tried to put it back, but I guess there was something bothering it. When we got home tonight it was upside down in the sand again and very dead. I am not sure what the cause but I have a list of maybe's but no real proof.
Also one of my
clown fish is missing, so I am mucho saddo right now. I am blaming the
Green Brittle star for that, that is my only explanation. I know it is in their nature, but I feed it shrimp on a regular basis so it has no need for catching food.
Maybe it climbed to the top of the rock work over night to scavenge, bumped into the clown, which is a top swimmer at night, caught it, and in the struggle toppled the clam. Clam spends all day upside down and just gives up the ghost. I did not check it this morning since the lights were off.
An easy explanation, but the right one, I do not know?
The hole in the mantle never quite healed but it seemed to be doing fine for itself as far as normal clam behavior. If it did move itself intentionally then there was something afoot that I will continue to contemplate
If it was clam only parasites, would it be best to wait about six months or so to add another clam, so that any specific parasite could die out?
Once again thanks to all especially the undying efforts of Casey and Mr. Barry!
