Baby clam?!

Have been keeping an eye on my worm rock for a couple weeks now. I have finally figured out that I have a baby clam that hitchhiked on it.

Not sure of sp. but it IS photo-sensitive and has dark if not black mantel. The mantel does have a wave to the edge.

Size is approx 3/8" long so it's really too small to tell sp. as of yet.

Will keep updates as things progress.

Very cool. I can't really see much in the picture either. Being the type of rock it is (christmas tree worm rock), it is very possible it could be a tridacnid of some sort tho.

I'm just hoping that the porate? doesn't end up enveloping it. I would imagine it would move though.

I do want to apologize for the pic. The camera doesn't focus up close very well and I was holding the rock while trying to shield the lights as well.

Try taking it with the tank lights on.

I was hoping that the worm rock could narrow a search of sp, but I've have since discovered that christmas tree worms are essentially world-wide so that blew that idea.

Just based on mantel I'm about 80% sure that it is a Tridacna. But with two subgenus and 8 possible sp. ... There is still no telling for sure.

The lights were on. I was having to block some of the reflection off the piece of acrylic since the pic was taken from the top.

Try to hold the rock up to the front of the tank while the camera is shooting straight through the glass. That will help cut down on the aberrations and give a bit clearer photo.

The clam will keep the porites at bay by simply moving and scraping at it with its shell, so no need to worry there.
