Any clam small enough for a tank <100 gals

I've got the bug to buy a clam, but only have a 90 gal tank. Lighting is not an issue with 2x250 MH + 4 T5s, but it seems like an organism growing to a foot or more just should be in a bigger tank?

What do you all think- would a maxima be too big (I have about 140 pounds of LR + assorted sps,lps in the tank already)? Also, i only have a couple of fish in the tank, but could not find any real articles on whether a pseudochromis may be a problem (he has never bothered my coral)?

Thanks for any advice or help!!

Pseudos are fine with clams.

Clams don't have a sense of space in a tank. So they can be in any size. I currently have 5 large clams in my 75.

It is possible for them to physically outgrow smaller tanks
(12" width), but at a growth rate around an inch or 2 a year it takes a while.

Clams rule. I'd definitely recommend one (or more ).

I'm of the same opinion as Vince... you can keep any of them in that sized tank. You may find, as they grow, calcium and alkalinity supplementation is more challenging, but that wouldnt be enough to keep me from trying. I say go for it.

i have an 8 inch maxima (and a couple of smaller clams) in my 105ish tank. It is currently so close to the front of the tank that the mantle is always against the acrylic. if i move it 6 inches back it moves back to the front. when i bought it it was basically in a cave. it is a bright blue clam that does not seem to need much light. i also basically keep one side of my tank kind of open for clams.

I have a squamosa that keeps moving up against the front glass of my tank. I move it back it moves forward. It just pains me to see its mantle squished against the glass. It must not bother the clam too much though.
