1st clam !!

Today i picked up small clam hes about 3 inchs.I read and read about clams and i am thinking i was rdy for one.Well at my lfs he only has one coral tank its 125 long i think. Now his lighting is really poor and only has 1 power head in the tank.I seen the clam i could see nice brown with some purple and blue but it was not open very much talking only maybe 1 cm so i really could not tell what what type it clam is was nor did the lfs ...lol.So i went ahead and got it.When i got home put in the tank it open up all the way(with in 1 min of being in the tank) showing its nice colors. So i am thinking hey must be doing something right i got total of 195 watts 2 actinic and one 10k for my 20 gallon. My question is that is seems kind jumpy when fish swims near it nothing is picking at or really just swim over it etc. Is this normal ? or just take time for it to ajust to the tank.?O and its a Derasa clam.

Leave it alone for now so it can adjust.

Derassas are most happy when they are in the sand, be sure it is not shaded though. I have one growing very fast in my 15 gallon with 55W 10K and 55W03 blue. So your lighting sounds great.

The closing responce when a fish is near is a good sign, they will also react quickly to changes in light (like a fish shadowing it, or your hand) if a clam does not react that is when you should worry.

Whiskey

So far so good today its little less jumpy.Hes starting to show more of his mantle and i see his mouth coming out for food.Only thing that bugs me is that his shell was pal white yesterday but today starting to show more of tent to it like greyish.I think he went threw shock coming form the lfs do to his nitrates where like 25 + i heard the shop owner saying somthing about it suprise that the clam or his other corals did not kick the bucket lol.Shop owns a nice guy but clueless.Just wish i had a diff lfs so i could some frags or different corals from lol. I was shocked to see a clam in his tank do to he only keeps mostly easyer corals like star polpys and brown shrooms and zenias.
