Moving sale: 30g custom plywood/starphire
Well, I’m moving, and getting out of the hobby too. I just didn’t have the time and money to create the tank that I had wanted, and I am selling the major components before I move. (By the end of this month.)
Up for sale is my 30g custom plywood starphire tank, stand, and pendant. All are skinned with 3/8" porcelain floor tile, and all weight quite a hefty sum. All were made by me over the course of about six months. Its been set up since last April - about a year old.
Here is a picture of the tank from a while ago. Note, my MH ballasted died on me, and I never did get enough money to replace it, so it was lit with a screw-in PC bulb in the pic.

Anyhow, there is a TON of stuff I could write about the whole setup, but I’ll hold off for right now. Long and short: I’m asking $200 or best offer for the stand, tank, and pendant, all as a whole. (Selling/giving away all accessories/livestock separately.) This is like one billionth of what I paid to build it; but I’m moving, and need to find someone that can take this out of my apartment within a week or so - the sooner the better.
As I said, I could write a ton about it, but I need to be brief for now so that the thread doesn’t get cluttered with my ramblings.
I have other stuff for sale too!
If you are interested, send me a PM, and I’ll give you my phone # and/or address and I can tell you more. I’ll try to post more pics/details later on tomorrow when I get the time.
Other used stuff for sale:
Eheim 1060 water pump - asking $50
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ier/eheim2.jpg
(Note, when it was shipped to me, it had a small crack in the base, which I superglued back together. Here's the pic of that...)
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ier/eheim3.jpg
Gorman Rupp 14110 external water pump - asking $60
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ier/grupp1.jpg
(Note, a tiny bit of rust on the back, which you can see clearly in the next pic. I can't say enough good things about this pump - it is fantastic, and quiet. MD is selling this pump new for $170.)
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ier/grupp3.jpg
True union ball valves, 3/4" and 1" - $5 each - pending sale
Gate valve 1" - asking $5 - pending sale
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ier/valves.jpg
That’s it! All my other stuff is gone. No livestock. No rock. That is gone. I have tons more pics and info to post, but I’m so tired, I need to get to bed. I’ve been tearing this tank down all day, and I have to go to work tomorrow at 5AM, so I can’t stay and answer any questions tonight. Tomorrow.

Now that I have the sale items all described, let me go into a little more detail about the tank setup with more pics.
Here is the front view of the stand, with the access cover removed.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...tand-cover.jpg
Here is the back view of the stand, showing the quick-disconnect to the power outlets in the stand, and the GFCI where the lighting pendant plugs in.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m.../tank-back.jpg
Here is a view of the inside of the stand (once I stripped it down) showing the four power outlets, each linked to its own switch. Also, there is a second GFCI for the outlets in here as well.)
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...and-inside.jpg
Here is a view of the front of the tank when it has been emptied. There are two built-in eductors on the bottom, along with a drain - this is for a closed loop.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...tank-front.jpg
Here's a shot of the overflow in action. It uses two 1" drain pipes, no Durso. The taller pipe is a backup, and the lower pipe is the actual drain - a siphon actually. It is dead-quiet and creates absolutely no bubbles in the sump.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...r/overflow.jpg
(Also note, the back of the tank is covered in "Great Stuff" PU foam. Then it was covered with coralline-colored cement. That's not actually coralline. The tank will look aged as soon as you fill it with water.
Another shot of the eductors from the top down. There is no loose sand in the tank, it is epoxy mixed w/ sand. Barebottom setup.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...r/eductors.jpg
Here's a shot of the bottom of the pendant. Note the yellow quick disconnect if you ever need to service it. The pendant plugs directly into the GFCI at the back of the stand.
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ant-bottom.jpg
Here's a top view of the pendant. Note - THE BALLAST DOES NOT WORK. It died on me a long time ago, and I never replaced it. It is set up to run a single 250w DE bulb. There is also a incandescent standard socket for the moonlight. (I can include the bulbs too.)
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...endant-top.jpg
Here's one last shot of the whole setup, taken just before I tore it down. Notice the top-off bucket next to the tank. I can include this too if you want.

Just a few more bits of info:
The Eheim is listed in all metric specs, so I converted them to make it easier to understand. It is very close to the 1260 model. (Note, mine is a 1060.) (Please correct me if I get this wrong!)
Max Head = 10.5 ft (converted from 3.2 meters)
Flow @ 0' = 587 gph (converted from 37 liters/minute)
Also, with the Gorman Rupp pump, there really isn't very many useful specs listed on the pump, but Marine Depot lists it as a Max flow of 960gph, and a max head of about 16'.
IMO, that 960gph seems a bit high, its probably more like 700gph. I would liken it to a Poseidon PS3 or thereabouts, give or take - in terms of flow, with a smaller max head. It does run hot, but doesn't get gummed up like the Poseidon. IIRC, I'm almost certain it uses less power as the Poseidon too. It isn't dead silent, but it is very quiet, especially for an external pump. Do a search over on Reef Central on Gorman Rupp pumps, and you'll find they are some of the best pumps on the market - in their class. (At least IMHO)

Anyhow, I dug up the old thread I started on RC, it can be read here:
http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...hreadid=750485
According to an email I got back from the Mfg, (Gorman Rupp), the 14110 model uses 72w. I think that will change depending on back pressure too. As will the noise level. I noticed when I had it hooked up to eductors (high pressure) it got a little louder than if it was running unrestricted. There is also a flow curve on Marine Depot's site.
I'm not terribly intersted in any trades, unless you have something extremely cool. Heh, obviously nothing reef related as I'm getting out! But hey, if you got some exotic hardwood lumber or related, I'd be interested in that.

Adding one more thing for sale:
Dwyer ariflow meter. It is model number RMA-6. It measures air flow (good for checking venturi on needlewheels) from 0 - 20 SCFHs. Pic below.

Asking $5 - pending sale

I thought of a trade item for the tank/stand/pendant: I would consider a decent jointer (not a benchtop) or a 14" bandsaw or thereabouts in a trade.

If I had the room, I'd take that off your hands in a second! I love the top off bucket. That's a fantastic idea! I never thought of creating a bucket that looks nice. I have about 7 pails from walmart sitting all over the house all the time. Not very aestetically pleasing.

Thanks Chris, I sent you a PM.
I have been thinking, and since I am getting out of the hobby, well - I just want to get rid of this tank. I really do! I'm now asking $100. Or, feel free to break into my nearly abandoned apartment and steal it. (just kidding.) No reasonable offer will be refused - well, I probably won't refuse an unreasonable offer either.
The only stipulation is that you can pick up the tank within the next few days. I can help you carry it out to your vehicle, I would say that the tank and stand weigh just slightly in excess of 100 lbs. each. But its not impossible for two people to move.
