Sump? for a 125...stella i got the PH4U

setting up a 125 FOWLR (soft corals)
has 2 over flows, can i run 2 sumps?
one with just a skimmer , heat, and return.
other with wet/dry (rubble) and media box, and return pump.
or just go with one.
for a return to the two over flows, can i use just 1 pump with a T?
Looking for energy saver system.

If you are going to run two sumps you need to connect them some how with a piece of pvc or tubing. I setup a two sump setup once and the problem I had was water levels in each sump, one would empty out while the other overflowed. It took me months to tune it, and even after I did I things would get out of wack quick. I did a lot of research and figured out that if a setup a pipe between to two tanks (bigger is better) both tanks would stay even. It is better just to go with a 40 or so. Sorry I could not give you a call tonight I had to run out with the family. If you want give me a call tomorrow I will PM you my number

Running a single return is probably about the best way to do it with 2 sumps. If you run the pump somewhere other than right by this connection, it might be a good idea to use a larger diameter pipe for the connection than the pump, just to further remove routes for Murphy to have fun with you.

Seriously, one sump is the way to go. With two, if you're lucky with the same powerhead in each, you MIGHT get lucky and not have one fill faster than the other (actually, empty slower)! At first look, one might think putting an overflow into each of 2 separate sumps they'd work fine. It's not the flow in to be concerned about; it's the flow out! Both will fill as fast; trying to get them both emptying at a rate where one doesn't overfill will be difficult.

Try using a long, narrow tank as your single sump and put a divider in there so if one side gets full faster it can overflow into the other.
