Schedule Quarterly meetings - a proposal
Schedule Quarterly meetings - a proposal
OK... Here is my proposal. We seem to always lose steam quickly after a couple of people host meetings, then we can go for months without another one, at which point people start asking if there are going to be any more. So I'd like to start getting at least one meeting per quarter (three months) scheduled well ahead of time. Something like this:
11/2007 : ABC will host at their house.
2/2008 : XYZ will host at their house.
5/2008 : Club trip to a public aquarium.
8/2008 : Open.
Additional meetings would fill in between quarterly meetings, but the big quarterly meeting would be the ones where we'd handle any club business and try to have an agenda more often. The quarterly meeting would also be the perfect opportunities to do something legitimately different, like the trip to a public aquarium I listed on the pretend agenda.
The in-between meetings would be more to chat about one person's tank, swap frag, and do general socialization. When people have time, we have meetings every month. When people are busy, we don't, but everyone knows the next quarterly meeting is already firmly scheduled.
What do you guys think?

OK, the holidays are now over. Wondering if anyone is interested in socializing with a bunch of other crusty old reefers....

I think quarterly is a great idea. That shouldn't be too hard to accomplish.

I think I could host a meeting in early March if everyone would be willing to wait until then. I will have to check in with boss and scheduler (Wife) for a date that works. Do you usually meet on weekends or weekdays?

Art, what ever works for you will be fine.
You can plan in 8 people more or less.
If I ever get my tank up Ill be happy to host as well.

I would be willing to host anytime also. The tank is not much to look at but it gets the job done.

Now comes the really hard part: setting a day and a time! Somebody needs to step forward (I would but I'm pretty much a member in absentia since I live 4500 miles away) and say, "OK, how's X:00 on x/x/08 at my house". Some people won't be able to make it because of prior engagements. If that happens to be you it would be your opportunity to say something like, "OK, I can't make it this time. Next time I'll host at Z:00 on x+2/y/08 at my place!"
The original group used to have a pretty good time with pupus (snacks) and beverages, talking about their tanks, problems they were having, ideas of things they wanted to do and also general socializing.
Since I can't host a meeting, I have an open invitation to any members who visit Maui to meet, have some kaukau (food) and take them on a tour of my "aquarium", the Pacific Ocean!

I should have a date and time in early march by the end of the week or tomorrow. I just need to check my calendar at home.

I can host in Winona if people are interested.
I have a 75 custom drilled with a 20 gallon sump and a 10 gallon refugium plumbed in. It is in my unfinshed basement and once I start finishing, I will be setting up a 210 in the wall with the 75 becoming a sump.

First, take Highway 14 west out of Winona and drive about 50 miles to the Highway 63 intersection. Turn south on Highway 63 (left) and go about 7 miles to the Rochester International Airport exit. Take exit, park car, go to ticket desk with credit card (best if you have a high limit and low balance), say, "I'd like a ticket to Maui." Get on the plane.
When you land at OGG, rent a car. Follow the signs out of the airport. Take a left at Hana Highway (by the K-Mart) and drive about 3 miles. At the first traffic light, turn right up Haleakala Hwy.
A little over 5 miles take the right into Pukalani. At the first light, take a right. Get in the left lane and follow that to the stop sign. Take a right there. Follow that street past a wide curve to the left, down a gulley and then back up and take the first right at the top of the gulley. I'm the 6th house on the right.

I will be there if I can. I might have to keep my visit short, though, as my wife is working evenings and I have 2 small kids to juggle
