Do you have any important info on them? Do you have the disc for the original operating system?

I guess he was going to suggest that you restart your computer back to the original 'day one' settings. If you have the startup disk and you might need the windows disk then you are good to go. I've done this a few times to my computer and its very fast until I get everything reinstalled again!! he he... So I believe you will put the start up disk in and restart the computer and just follow the instructions for a system restart. Remember that you will lose everything and may have to reinstall some drivers again once you're finished.

Look here for decent anti-spyware and anti-virus software that is nastiness-free and just plain free. It's under the security tab. You might have to hunt around the target sites to find the free versions of software, though.

http://www.cleansoftware.org/

I use AVG free antivirus, Spybot search & destroy, and lavasoft's Ad-Aware.

All three will help to clean out the assorted nasties. Deleting all the cookies in your browser can also help, as that is one of the major ways spyware identifies you to screw up your computer.

You could run Norton & some spyware programs in safe mode. Thats a place to start.

Yeah definitely try deleting some programs and use the virus scans, delete temp internet files, cookies, etc before doing what I suggested. Reset the system as a last resort!!

If it slowed back down you probably didn't completely remove the trojans/worm.

Do you know how much memory your computer has? Also, who is your internet service provider? Anything besides AOL?
