Unhappy

It finally happened to me: CRASH

I got home tonight after a 6 day trip. All my Acropora are dead, my Monitpora seem ok (figures). All my red sea Xenia are dead and gone as well - not surprised given it is my canary in the coal mine. I lost at least 2 emerald crabs -0 the huge ones.

Problem, Ph 8.7-8.8!!!!

Apparently, when I made 25 gallons of kalk solution to drip 24/7 while I was gone, I made an error in the mixture of solution - computational error.

What can survive a Ph smash: All zooanthids, anthelia, mushrooms, colt, basically, all softies, my fish (I hope, don't know for sure) my shrimp (surprised?), and all the montipora....cus monti's dont RTN.

Yes, I am sick to my stomach, yes I will be looking for a couple SPS frags, yes, you may send condolences.

Sorry to hear about the crash, Ross! I have a little bit of pumping Xenia to offer, but that's about it.

Funny thing is that my clam and other soft but delicate animals are fine - blue anthelia are not happy, but alive, so are my pink/green clavularia.

The WILD thing is that my skimmer stopped working at least a few days ago. Yes, a build of of nutrients are not an SPS favorite, but it is likely that the skimmer stopping HELPED my tank. Had my skimmer been oxygenating my water during the day like it normally does, my Ph would have been significantly higher - maybe even 9! Blessing in disguise. It is working fine now, just needed a good cleaning.

Yep, some Xenia would be great - all kinds. I will take some red sea if anyone has that as well. If not, Nate at F&P usually has some to spare.

I will slowly get over this....somehow my ego is a bit bruised here as well.

My condolences. I gave Chump some frags, if they grow out, then I'm sure he'd be happy to spread the wealth. (Sorry chump, I had to say it). If you ever make it up this way, I have some frags that I'll donate to get you back on your feet. I also have some that'll cost you some cash if you really want them, but that's a different story.

Maybe others who have been in this longer and down that same road might have some "Been There Ego Cream" to offer to help the bruising. Let me know when you want some of the Xenia and I'll slice you a fresh one.

Oh yeah, let's just say, been there, done that. Not quite like that, but I've had my share of crash and burns.

Sorry to hear about your tank, I know I always set a little aprehensive every time I walk into my house after being gone for awhile. No matter how well I prepare something can anways go wrong with the tanks.

If we are still on for next weekend you could stop over on the way and we could bag up some frags for you.
