Anyone have an extra RO unit? Finally setting the tank up again! Or know where to buy RO water in Rochester until I get one? Thanks...

Thanks oyam, I'll check out EWOF again. I went to the pet stores once a couple months ago when I had some free time... didn't really see too much. I really need to buy one again.... lugging around 100 gallons of water is a big hassle! I"m excited to get the tank up again.

A lot of times places like Menard's or Home Depot will have RO units for home drinking water. I'm not sure how much stuff they take out but it IS good for human consumption and I suspect will be fine for an aquarium. Also, I'm sure it'd be less than one you'd find at a fish store!
PS When you think of Hawai'i, you wouldn't think the drinking water would be a problem. Much of the drinking water in the area I live is taken from resevoirs (sp?) and many of the supply pipes have lead yet. Maybe it isn't paradise but I still love it here!

Grocery stores have RO water as well. That is the water dispensing machines often by the pop & bottled water where you can refill office water cooler 5 gallon jugs. It is not deionized at all, but that is still much better than straight tap water.
I've noted it at Cub Foods and Wal Mart, but I don't remember seeing it at Hy-Vee Barlow.

De-ionizing (DI) is different than reverse osmosis (RO). While both do essentially the same thing-remove ions such as lead, sodium, calcium, phosphates, nitrates, etc.-I believe the RO removes about 99% of ions while DI removes 99.9%. Both also remove many organic compounds like chloramine and other nitrogenous and carbon based compounds. DI will give you a "cleaner" water at a much greater cost but not so much cleaner that your aquarium will notice the difference. At least that's my opinion...
