Hello All! Old Reefer in a new City

I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Justin Phillips, and I have just recently moved to from California. I have been keeping reef tanks for the last 5 years and have been keeping aquariums for the last 10. In California I served as club president for the local club out that way called the Bay Area Reef Enthusiasts. My first reef tank was a 72 gallon Bow Front (for some reason still my favorite tank to this day). From there I moved up to 110 gallon reef tank which I kept for 3 years until I decided to move to Minnesota. About a year after my first tank I got the bright idea to start a coral business in my garage, and somehow talked my wife into letting me turn the whole 3 car garage into a coral propagation business. Well after a year of doing that the stress of a very busy full time job and a garage based coral business caught up to me, and I decided to sell off all my stock and equipment to someone who wanted to start a coral business and just be happy with my 110g tank. When we decided we were going to move out here I sold my whole tank instead of moving it. Well now that I am in Rochester and settled, it is time to get a new tank and get active with all the local reefers. I look forward to meeting all of you, and look forward to the next club meeting.

I just figured the California sun and smog may have warped your typing. Freezer burn affects us here!

Hehe the font is all different and it has office tags in it. Usually when I do a post I type it up in Word then paste it into the forum, I guess this forum does not like that.

I am still a couple months off from starting the tank. I have about a 100lbs of dead rock, I was going to head to fleet farm and get a plastic trough and get the rock and some sand started cycling this weekend. I was going to pick up a couple live rocks to seed the dead stuff. That way by the time I am ready to get the tank my rocks should all be good to go. We still need to finish construction of a new room in our house before I get the new tank. I am getting to that point though that I really want to get a tank going for some something to do when I am at home.

Check the upper right hand corner of the post, next to the "quote" button. There should be an "edit" button there on your own posts.

Welcome to Rochester! No equivalent to Monterey Bay around here, but if you want to cross it with Yosemite in an experience, try the North shore of Lake Superior sometime.

EDIT: And here's an edit...

Yeah dont have the edit button yet and in my posting rules is says I may not edit my posts so I am sure that it is just one of those I need to have posted a certain ammount of times before I can edit.

On the Monterey Bay thing, well I find that has been the only thing I have missed about California (well that and a better sellection of nice places to eat, not really that rochester has bad food, but the sellection is not that big). Besides reef tanks I am a scuba diver and breakwater cove in Montery was a great place to dive.

Another diver! Welcome to fresh-water! Lets get you wet sometime...I know of some great places if you dont mind a 2 hour drive. Stop into my work sometime and introduce yourself...its the only dive store in town and I'm the only guy named John there. (guess that narrows it down some!) Again, welcome!

Well if that is case John I know we have met. I have been in the shop several times and even did a pool dive with you guys as a refresher ( I just went to Jamaica) I also work with John Martin, and I am looking forward to getting on a real dive with you guys soon.

Starting to ring some bells now, so we have likely met. I'll see you again soon. Next time we can kill time talking about reefs.
