Diving the Great Barrier Reef?

Do you know, or have you been to the GBR?
Lost out on Mexico dive trip this year...but i will be going to Fla next week.
Friends from work are thinking of Dive trip to GBR next year.
Any good web-sights to see how this work?
I take it the reef is a long ways off shore...so do people do day trips?
any info would be great.
we are open to other locations......have not been to Bon-air Belize or Turks.
thanx

Never been but a dive operator that used to be out of Maui (sold his business and lord knows what he does or where he is now) that's originally from Australia said that the GBR is a LONG ways from shore.

Have you checked into the local scuba club? One of the members took a 2 week trip to Australia, one of which was spent on a live-aboard on the reef. He had some AWESOME pics to share at one of the meetings I attended. MDC Sports will know how to contact the club.

Didn't you visit Maui last winter? Seems someone on the boards here did or was thinking about it. If you (or any other member of the RMAC) ever visits, let me know; I'd love to hook up!

If you're doing the GBR, then a live-aboard is the only way to go for diving. If you are there to sight see and get in a couple dives, then do day trips. Just remember its quite a cruise out to the best sites from shore, so if you get sea-sick be prepared.
